Hello,
everyone loving Japanese food and culture.
Have
you ever been to the Tsukiji Market?
As
you know, the Tsukiji Market is well known as the world biggest fish
market and as a symbol of Japanese food culture. And it has been
contributing to keep our food safety for more than 80years, so it is
very important place for Japanese.
Now
the Tsukiji Market is facing a relocation crisis.
Tokyo
Metropolitan Government decided to relocate the central food market
from Tsukiji to Toyosu on October 11 next month.
However,
many experts on food distribution and architecture have pointed out
serious problems about the new market.
For
example, the land of Toyosu is highly contaminated with chemical
substances, such as, benzene, lead, arsenic, hexevalant chrome and
mercury.
It
may cause a cancer.
And
also. the level of the water under the ground in Toyosu exceeds
safety level.
If
a big earthquake occurs, it may cause a land liquefaction.
Most
of these problems have been never resolved until now.
They
are still remaining in the new market place, Toyosu.
In
this June, benzene of 170 times as large as an environmental safety
standard was found from the ground water in Toyosu.
So
we are against the relocation of the Tsukiji Market.
We
think the procedure of the relocation to Toyosu is illegal and the
relocation to Toyosu will destroy the food distribution system in
Japan and Japanese food culture.
And
also we think this relocation may cause a serious crisis of the
distribution of foods in Japan.
So
we need to save the Tsukiji Market.
But
Tokyo Metropolitan government anounced that they would start
destroying the facilities of the Tsukiji Inner Market on October 18,
just one week after the opening day of the Toyosu Market.
We
have to stop the destruction of the Tsukiji Market.
On
September 19, workers and families of the Tsukiji Market, including
intermediate wholesalers, have filed an administrative lawsuit to ask
cessation of the relocaton to prevent the injury of goodwill due to
relocation to Toyosu.
The
plaintiff group of this litigation, including the Tsukiji Okamisan
Kai (a group of the women workers at the Tsukiji market), and
consumers will conduct the demonstration march asking the cancel of
the approval of the Toyosu market. It is scheduled to depart from the
main gate of the Tsukiji market and head to Hibiya Park via Ministry
of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Kasumigaseki.
In
this demonstration march, many people who love Tsukiji are going to
participate in addition to those working in Tsukiji.
If
you have a time, please participate in our action to protect the
Tsukiji market.
Now
it is a very important time whether the Tsukiji market can survive or
not, but unfortunately most of Japanse do not know the real
situation of the Toyosu market.
Let's
appeal together the stunningness of the Tsukiji Market to those on
the road!
